Having to flag someone over so we could order dessert after we stacked our plates up in the hope of drawing attention to the fact we had finished mains was also disappointing... Striploin steak cooked as per request...Beef cheef was fork tender... Potatoes (pan fried with honey & lardons), delicious accompaniment to mains. Wake up to a wonderful European-style breakfast with coffee on deck. While we weren’t exactly in a rush, we needed to keep up the pace in order to get back home to Seattle on time. Back we went, following the ups and downs of the Four Stream Trail until we were once again at the junction with the Staircase Rapids Loop.
At the first intersection after the bridge go straight and follow the signs for the Fish Hatchery. The parking area is located on the right side of the road. For 13 miles, you will hike the East Fork Quinault River Trail through old growth forests until you reach the chalet. Bear, elk, coyote, mountain lion, and deer can sometimes be spotted along the trail. The Spruce Nature Trail is a 1.2 mile loop which features more views of the rainforest and the Hoh River. From the parking lot, it is an easy 2.25 mile round trip walk to the waterfall.

This time, we turned left, and it wasn’t long before the graceful bridge came into view. Finally, as the trail twisted and turned through knotty tree roots, we came to the confluence where Four Stream meets the North Fork Skokomish. While the trail appears to continue along Four Stream, it becomes even brushier and harder to follow, making this a good turnaround point. It’s a secluded, pretty spot, with room to rest by the rushing stream. Pets are not allowed on trails in Olympic National Park.
